Some good old-fashioned end-of-summer fun is on the schedule Saturday at Regina’s Government House.
Free old-fashioned games and activities will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Aug. 28 at the former home for the Lieutenant-Governor of the North-West Territories.
“We invite you to join us on the grounds of Government House for a game of bocce ball, croquet, cricket, a scavenger hunt and more,” said provincial capital commission CEO Monique Goffinet Miller.
“You can even catch a glimpse of vintage cars on display, courtesy of the Antique Auto Association of Regina. The Government House Historical Society’s Jocko’s Friends will also be on-site selling lemonade.”
Visitors can also visit the century-old Edwardian Gardens — which boasts thousands of vibrant flowers — or take a tour of Government House this weekend. Free tours will be offered every hour on the hour.
The Old Fashioned Fun and Games day coincides with an exhibit called Rehab – Rest – Recreation: Government House Convalescent Period 1945-1957. The exhibit explores the time in the home’s history when it transitioned from a government residence to a home for military veterans.
Rehabilitation for 65 veterans at Government House in June 1957 included healing, therapy and sports.
The Queen Elizabeth II Art Gallery and the house’s museum will also be open.
