As August comes to a close, we are getting a better idea as to what September will look like.
Environment Canada meteorologist David Phillips says “normal” conditions are predicted for the month.
“Our models are showing normal weather — wetter, but overall pretty normal. We’ve got a long ways to go to fill that moisture bank,” Phillips said during Tuesday’s Greg Morgan Morning Show.
Lots of days with temperatures sitting around 20 C are expected, according to Phillips.
“I would take normal conditions in a heartbeat,” he said. “There’s more people that like normal weather than when it’s too hot or too cold.”
Rainfall is expected to be plentiful throughout the month.
What started as a very dry summer resulted in above-average rainfall by the end of August.
“In June, July and August, it’s going to shock you that, in fact, Regina had more rain than normal — about 10 per cent more than you normally would get,” Phillips said. “The problem is that it came at the beginning of June and the end of August.
“I know the rains came late, but it’s greening up. Certain crops are going to benefit from that like the pasture land, pulses and the soybeans.”
Days above 30 C, frost and snow are not out of the question for September.
“It’s almost a month of everything,” Phillips said. “We will have to see.”
