9:45 – Joe Toscano, a former Experience Design Consultant at Google who spoke out against social media in the Netflix film ‘The Social Dilemma,’ has been an outspoken critic of Facebook and social media giants for ignoring the harms their services do in the interest of massive profits. Toscano compared Facebook to a car company selling vehicles with faulty seatbelts, saying the car manufacturer would be subject to a massive recall, while Facebook is allowed to continue operating with little oversight or regulation. The issues with Facebook were thrown back into the spotlight this week during the Congressional testimony of former employee Frances Haugen, and Toscano joins Gormley to discuss what can be done about Facebook’s issues.
