Regina fire crews had their hands full Wednesday night when they tackled a blaze at the Emterra Group recycling depot at the Global Transportation Hub.
When crews arrived around 6 p.m., they found one of the processing machines on fire.
“Fortunately, the built-in fire protection system (the business) had actually kept the fire at bay. It kept it to one area,” Neil Sundeen, Regina’s deputy fire chief, said Thursday. “Our crews then spent the next several hours ensuring the fire was out by taking things apart and hosing them down.
“It was a lot of smoke, but things were under control within an hour, and then there was just a time period of doing some clean-up work.”
Fire investigators were on the scene Thursday morning trying to determine if the fire was mechanical or if the recycle material itself caused the fire.
No one was hurt. The total amount of damage caused by the blaze has not yet been determined.
