Saskatchewan’s easy ride with the weather is over.
The province had a much warmer than average start to the season, with many spots even hitting the 30 C mark in late September.
However, Environment Canada expects that trend to end this week.
Meteorologist Chris Stammers gave his look ahead Sunday.
“It definitely looks like (Sunday) is the last mild day, for the next little bit anyway,” he said.
Stammers explained the normal temperature for this time of year is about 13 C on any given day. The forecast for both Regina and Saskatoon shows the temperatures hovering at or below 10 C.
On top of that, he expects frost to kick in with temperatures dipping below 0 C almost every night.
“That will start, probably by Tuesday morning. We’ll be seeing consistent lows below 0 C for the foreseeable future,” Stammers said.
“It’s pretty common at this time of year to be having those sub-zero temperatures.”
With frost on the way, he’s reminding gardeners and any farmer who hasn’t finished harvest to pay attention to the forecast.
“People might have hung on to their crops or their vegetables a little while longer because of this weather, so definitely pay attention to those overnight lows,” he warned.
Some areas could also see snow for the first time this season around Thursday.
However, it’s unlikely it will stick around.
“Our daytime highs are still going to be well above freezing. It may stick overnight, but it’ll quickly melt during the day if there is any snow mixed in, and it’s going to be pretty wet snow as well,” said Stammers.
