The latest COVID update was a bit of a mixed bag.
In its daily update Saturday, the province reported that the active case total had dropped to 4,297.
There were 411 new cases and 476 recoveries, along with three new deaths.
The pressure on the province’s hospitals continues, but there were 327 COVID patients as of Saturday. That’s 12 fewer than the day before. However, two more people were admitted to the ICU, leaving 81 people in intensive care.
According to the Ministry of Health:
- As of October 16th, there are 411 new confirmed cases of COVID-19, bringing the total to 74,074 reported cases.
- The new cases are located in the Far North West (18), Far North East (21), North West (51), North Central (58), North East (18), Saskatoon (98), Central West (9), Central East (39), Regina (49), South West (7), South Central (8) and South East (19) zones and 16 new cases have pending residence information.
- 30 cases with pending residence information were assigned to Far North West (from October 14 (8)), North West (from October 11 (2), October 13 (1), October 14 (10)), North Central (from September 9 (1), October 13 (1), October 14 (1)), Saskatoon (from October 14 (1)), South West (from October 14 (1)), South Central (from October 14 (1)), and South East (from October 7 (1), October 13 (1), October 14 (1)) zones.
- Two (2) SK residents tested out-of-province were added to the case counts of Regina (from October 14 (1)) and South East (from October 8 (1)).
- One (1) case was a repeat test and removed from the North West (from October 14 (1)) zone.
- 74,074 cases are confirmed:
- 18,152 cases are from the North area (8,030 North West, 7,428 North Central, 2,694 North East)
- 17,833 cases are from the Saskatoon area
- 14,621 cases are from the Regina area
- 8,840 cases are from the Far North area (4,142 Far North West, 541 Far North Central, 4,157 Far North East)
- 8,946 cases are from the South area (2,013 South West, 2,735 South Central, 4,198 South East)
- 5,039 cases are from the Central area (1,336 Central West, 3,703 Central East)
- 643 cases have pending residence information.
- 4,297 cases are considered active and 69,001 cases are considered recovered.
- More than one quarter (29.9%) of new cases are in the age category of 11 and under.
- More than one quarter (28.5%) of new cases eligible for vaccination (aged 12 years and older) were fully vaccinated.
- As of October 16th, a total of 327 individuals are hospitalized; including 246 inpatient hospitalizations, and 81 ICU hospitalizations. Of the 327 patients, 256 (74.9%) were not fully vaccinated.
- Three (3) new deaths reported today. 776 Saskatchewan residents with COVID-19 have died with a case fatality rate of 1.0%.
- 1,189,287 COVID-19 tests have been performed in the province. As of October 14th, 2021, when other provincial and national numbers are available from PHAC, Saskatchewan’s per capita rate was 1,002,046 tests performed per million population. The national rate was 1,179,741 tests performed per million population.
- The 7-day average of new COVID-19 case numbers was 367 (30.4 new cases per 100,000).
