An investigation Monday into a suspicious package has led to explosives charges against a Regina man.
Just after 3 p.m., Regina Police Service officers responded to a call about a suspicious package at a business in the 600 block of Albert Street.
In a media release, police said the first officers on the scene were told a man had been detained for shoplifting and a bag he was carrying contained items that appeared suspicious.
Staff took the bag to another area nearby and then called police.
Officers examined the package and called the Explosives Disposal Unit, which dealt with the package without incident.
The man who had been carrying the package had left the scene, but he was identified, arrested and charged.
A 30-year-old man faces two counts of possession of an explosive substance contrary to an order, possession of incendiary material, and theft under $5,000.
He was to make his first court appearance Tuesday afternoon.
