The pressure on Saskatchewan hospitals eased up somewhat in the latest COVID update.
Saturday, the province reported a drop from 308 COVID patients in hospital down to 288.
Active cases were also on the down-swing. There were 231 new cases reported, along with 322 recoveries. The active total now sits at 3,040.
Five new deaths were also reported.
According to the Ministry of Health:
- As of October 23rd, there are 231 new confirmed cases of COVID-19, bringing the total to 76,074 reported cases
- The new cases are located in the Far North West (14), Far North East (6), North West (17), North Central (22), North East (11), Saskatoon (48), Central West (1), Central East (20), Regina (43), South West (9), South Central (3), and South East (24) zones and 13 new cases have pending residence information
- 14 cases with pending residence information were assigned to Far North West (from October 20 (1)), North West (from September 23 (1), October 7 (1), October 8 (1)), North Central (from October 21 (2)), Saskatoon (from October 21 (2)), Central East (from October 20 (1), October 21 (2)), and South East (from October 21 (3)) zones
- One (1) SK resident tested out-of-province was added to the Regina (from October 18 (1)) zone
- 76,074 cases are confirmed
- 18,669 cases are from the North area (8,293 North West, 7,640 North Central, 2,736 North East)
- 18,335 cases are from the Saskatoon area
- 14,954 cases are from the Regina area
- 9,223 cases are from the South area (2,066 South West, 2,790 South Central, 4,367 South East)
- 8,980 cases are from the Far North area (4,199 Far North West, 541 Far North Central, 4,240 Far North East)
- 5,288 cases are from the Central area (1,375 Central West, 3,913 Central East)
- 625 cases have pending residence information
- 3,040 cases are considered active and 72,217 cases are considered recovered
- One third (33.3%) of new cases are in the age category of 20 to 39
- Over one-fourth (28.0%) of new cases eligible for vaccination (aged 12 years and older) were fully vaccinated
- As of October 23rd, a total of 288 individuals are hospitalized, including 211 inpatient hospitalizations and 77 ICU hospitalizations. Of the 288 patients, 207 (71.9%) were not fully vaccinated.
- As of October 23rd, a total of seven (7) SK patients have been transferred out-of-province, additional transfers are being planned.
- As these patients are receiving care out of province, this number is not included in the hospitalization counts in dashboard.
- Five (5) new deaths reported today. 817 Saskatchewan residents with COVID-19 have died, with a case fatality rate of 1.1%.
- 1,208,883 COVID-19 tests have been performed in the province. As of October 21st, 2021, when other provincial and national numbers are available from PHAC, Saskatchewan’s per capita rate was 1,018,753 tests performed per million population. The national rate was 1,197,106 tests performed per million population.
- The 7-day average of new COVID-19 case numbers was 286 (23.8 new cases per 100,000).
