A Moose Jaw woman who allegedly drove into five vehicles in Regina — including two police cars and a garbage truck — is facing a variety of charges.
The Regina Police Service said officers got a call Friday at about 7:30 a.m., regarding a two-vehicle collision on 12th Avenue at Rose Street. A car had driven into the back of a waste disposal vehicle that was stopped at a red light.
The car’s driver didn’t get out of the vehicle and didn’t respond to officers banging on the window, so officers broke a back window to check on her.
Police said she “was roused by physical contact,” but wouldn’t shut off the engine or get out of the car. She tried to drive ahead and then backed into a police car and a City of Regina truck before taking off.
Shortly after, police were told the same car had hit a car parked in the 1800 block of Smith Street. A police supervisor pulled up behind the suspect’s car with emergency lights activated, but before the officer could get out, the suspect car backed into the police vehicle and took off again.
Police eventually used a spike belt to deflate the car’s tires, but it kept going before stopping in the 2100 block of Retallack Street. There, the driver was taken into custody.
No one was hurt.
The 29-year-old driver was charged with five counts of hit and run, two counts of evading police and one count each of impaired operation of a conveyance by alcohol, drugs, or a combination, and exceeding .08. She’s to appear in court Nov. 17.
