Instead of someone paying for another person to write an exam for them at school, Saskatchewan officials say people are hiring others to get their COVID-19 vaccination.
Saskatchewan Health Authority CEO Scott Livingstone and Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency president Marlo Pritchard confirmed during a Tuesday technical briefing about the state of COVID-19 in the province that they’re aware some people in the province have paid others to get vaccinated under the first person’s name.
The province has instituted a proof-of-vaccination policy for people to gain access to various businesses and events.
Livingstone said there have been “some instances across the province where individuals are coming forward claiming that they are vaccinating individuals for COVID-19 and these are fraudulent claims.”
In such cases, individuals would provide their health card to another individual to take with them to receive a vaccination.
At this point in time, the frequency or prominence of this is not known, Livingstone said. Pritchard said every complaint they receive will be investigated.
Because fraud is a criminal offence, Pritchard also said the SPSA may partner with local police in these investigations.
Pharmacy employees are encouraged to report any suspected fraud on the province’s 1-855 line.
