The City of Regina is putting away most of its sawhorses and construction zone signs for 2021.
The city said in a release Tuesday the 2021 construction program is winding down, having done $112.6 million worth of work in transportation, water, wastewater and drainage projects.
The investments included $55 million for water, wastewater and drainage programs, $22.8 million for the Residential Road Renewal Program (RRRP), and $16.8 million for the Street Infrastructure Renewal Program (SIRP).
Under the RRRP, 31.5 kilometres of residential roads will be upgraded and enhanced by the end of the season. The SIRP improved 10.1 km of major roadways, including Park Street, Ross Avenue and Albert Street.
Other projects that were completed in 2021 included:
- Construction of the new Maple Leaf Pool;
- Creek and waterway revitalization improvements;
- Replacement of 1.1 km of large diameter cast iron water main along Sixth Avenue North;
- Phase 2 of 3 for the North Central Drainage Upgrade project;
- Phase 1 of 2 on the McCarthy Infrastructure Improvement Project with bridge and sewer renewal; and,
- Phase 1 of 2 on the Winnipeg Street Overpass Project.
The latter three projects will continue as long as the weather allows, with completion expected in 2022.
There also will be water and sewer repairs, traffic signal upgrades and other maintenance work through the winter and spring as needed.
“As the 2021 construction season wraps up, we’ve seen important investment in essential infrastructure including work on high-visibility projects in the Downtown and along the Ring Road at the Winnipeg Street overpass,” Mayor Sandra Masters said in the release.
“In addition, other significant projects that address residents’ priorities have been part of a successful 2021 construction season, such as the improvement of 31.5 km of residential roads, upgrades to our utility infrastructure and enhancements to the cycling network.“
