Marina Boucher is giving back this Christmas.
In previous years, Boucher has received help through 980 CJME’s Santa Anonymous campaign. Now, she works for the Salvation Army in Regina and is helping with the program this year.
“Being able to give back what others have graciously given to me is something I’ll remember forever,” Boucher said during Friday’s Greg Morgan Morning Show. “I do believe everyone needs a little extra love at this time of year.”
980 CJME launched its 52nd annual Santas Anonymous campaign Friday to ensure every child has a gift for the holidays.
The public is encouraged to buy a new, unwrapped toy and place it in one of many donation bins in the city. Their locations can be found here. Monetary donations will also be accepted.
About 1,500 families rely on the toy drive annually.
Santas Anonymous runs until Dec. 11, when a drive-through collection day will be held between noon and 4 p.m.
Toys are collected for children in three age categories.
For those two years old and under, some suggested donations include plush toys, bath toys and blocks.
Gifts for children between three and eight years old could include Lego, dolls, puzzles, easy-to-read books and clothes for playing dress-up.
Recommended presents for children aged nine to 12 could include Lego, board games, craft kits, science kits or sports equipment.
“I’ve had a few memorable Christmases with Santas Anonymous,” said Boucher, a single mother who has a 14-year-old daughter. “One of the huge ones was last year during COVID. I had a wonderful family that adopted me.
“We received most of what was on our list and there was a little surprise spa kit (included in the package). It was nice as a parent that I was thought of too and that was something that me and my daughter could enjoy together on Christmas Day.”
Boucher recommended families who need help from Santas Anonymous should apply as quickly as possible.
“Living on social assistance or being a student, sometimes you can’t provide outside of your means,” she said, “and definitely Christmas is one of the toughest times of the year.”
