A 21-year-old man was sentenced to 18 years in prison Thursday in connection with Regina’s first murder of 2020.
Kurtis Thomas pleaded guilty in Court of Queen’s Bench to a charge of manslaughter in the death of Keesha Bitternose. The 29-year-old mother of four died Jan. 5, 2020.
That night, police were sent to a house in the 1500 block of Cameron Street around 11 p.m., for a call about a woman who appeared to be dead. Officers and paramedics arrived and found Bitternose’s body.
Thomas was one of three people initially charged with first-degree murder. He pleaded guilty to the lesser charge Thursday.
He was given credit for time served, meaning his sentence will comprise a little more than 15 years.
