A standoff in Regina early Saturday ended when police convinced two people to emerge from their hiding place — in the trunk of a car.
In a media release Monday, the Regina Police Service said an officer was asked just before 1 a.m., to pull over a car that was believed to have been involved in a break and enter outside of Regina.
The officer activated his lights in the area of Fifth Avenue and Queen Street, but the car didn’t stop. It eventually got stuck in the area of Hoffer Bay and Park Street and spike belts were used to deflate the car’s tires, but the driver kept moving forward and reversing and eventually rammed into a police vehicle.
“After several attempts to drive away, the driver and passenger moved to the back of the vehicle and eventually, the trunk, before they were negotiated out successfully over an hour and a half later,” the police release said.
