About 150 people filled the sidewalk outside the Regina Public School Division offices on Tuesday evening.
The protesters waved at honking cars and pumped up signs reading things like “no kill shot” and “my body, my choice” outside the office on Fourth Avenue. Many were wearing orange sweaters reading “teach freedom.”
One protestor later explained that some were there to voice their frustration over a vaccine mandate being brought in for division staff.
The crowd was at the office as the public school board’s meeting was set to begin, though the meeting was closed so none of the protesters could attend.
On Tuesday, bookings began for children between the ages of five and 11 to get the first of their COVID-19 shots. In the first five hours of online bookings for children being open, more than 12,000 appointments were booked.
The province’s plan for the rollout of children’s vaccines includes clinics being held at rec centres, libraries and some schools.
