Zipping past everyone else on the road apparently didn’t alert a driver that he was doing nearly twice the speed limit.
In a media release Friday, the RCMP said an officer saw a vehicle speeding Tuesday around noon on the Trans-Canada Highway near Wolseley.
The officer’s radar showed the car was doing 202 kilometres per hour. After checking the radar, the officer again clocked the vehicle at 202 km/h.
The driver immediately slowed and stopped when the officer turned on their lights and siren. The officer found out the driver had just entered the country from the United States and had set his cruise control at 110 … but his car’s speedometer operated in miles per hour.
“The RCMP officer demonstrated a friendly (some may stay stereotypically Canadian) attitude and focused primarily on education versus fining the driver the full $2,055 speeding ticket,” the Mounties’ release said.
The driver also told the officer he had needed to fill his gas tank twice since crossing the Canada-U.S. border.
