The number of active COVID-19 cases in Saskatchewan hit a four-month low Monday.
The Ministry of Health’s daily update said there were 634 active cases in the province, the fewest since there were 634 on Aug. 10.
There were 122 active cases in the Saskatoon region and 101 in the Regina area.
The ministry reported 48 new cases, 107 recoveries and two deaths. The active case count in the province has dropped by nearly 64 per cent over the past month.
The deaths were both in the 40-to-59 age group. One of the people lived in the Regina region, while the other was a resident of the north-central area of the province.
To date, 931 Saskatchewan residents have died due to COVID.
There were 130 COVID patients in the province’s hospitals, with 30 of those in intensive care units. Three Saskatchewan residents remained in Ontario ICUs for treatment.
A look at the numbers
The new cases were reported in the Saskatoon (15), Regina (12), central-east (eight), south-central (three), far northwest (two), northwest (two), north-central (two), southeast (two) and central-west (one) zones. The hometown of one new case is pending.
The cases comprised 26 unvaccinated people, 21 individuals who were considered fully vaccinated and one person who was partially vaccinated.
The unvaccinated group included four children under the age of five and 11 kids between the ages of five and 11.
The seven-day average of new COVID cases stood at 66, or 5.5 per 100,000 people.
To date, there have been 81,410 cases reported in the province as well as 79,845 recoveries.
There were 2,420 doses of COVID vaccine administered in the latest reporting period, comprising 2,051 first shots and 369 second shots.
The 1,763,254 vaccinations done so far in Saskatchewan included 840,505 second shots.
Since children aged five to 11 became eligible for COVID vaccinations, 33,918 have got their first jabs.
