Carmichael Outreach has received “incredible” support since it was broken into in mid-November, according to the organization’s development co-ordinator.
“The silver lining is seeing the community come together the way it has, which has been truly inspiring and wonderful to see. We’ve received so much support,” Aurora Marinari said on Tuesday’s Greg Morgan Morning Show. “So many different organizations have come forward to offer to replace our laptops, which is really amazing.
“We’ve had so many donations come in. It has been really wonderful to see how much the community can pull together and how much support we actually have from the people in Regina. That’s quite inspiring.”
The organization’s building was broken into on Nov. 23. In total, it was estimated that around $25,000 worth of laptops, gift cards, and other goods were stolen.
With the holidays right around the corner, Marinari said there’s a lot of focus on the organization’s Christmas for Carmichael event, which hasn’t taken place since 2019.
“It’s going to be a very fun, exciting event because we are getting a three-course meal provided, and it’ll be an evening of fun and festivities,” Marinari said.
The event takes place at the Pile O’ Bones Brewing Company on Dec. 16. The one-night event raised more than $10,000 the last time it was held.
Juno-nominated songwriter Megan Nash will be performing and proceeds from the event will help fund Carmichael Outreach’s different programs and services like house support and food security.
