Two men were given lengthy prison sentences Wednesday in connection with a man’s death in Regina more than five years ago.
Jeremiah Theodore Stonechild was sentenced to 26 years in prison and Cody Michael Gordon was handed a 12-year sentence for the killing of Mackenzie Keshane. The 19-year-old man was found dead in a house on Montreal Street on Sept. 8, 2016.
Gordon and Stonechild were arrested March 24, 2018 and initially charged with first-degree murder.
On Nov. 1 of this year, they pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of manslaughter, and their sentencing hearing was set for Wednesday at Regina Court of Queen’s Bench.
The Crown and defence made a joint sentencing recommendation, which was accepted.
Both men also were handed firearms prohibitions and ordered to provide DNA samples.
As well, Gordon was given an 18-month sentence to be served concurrently for aggravated assault. That charge wasn’t related to the Keshane case.
