A Saskatoon meat processor and warehouse has been forced to shut down after an infestation of rodents.
In a news release, the Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) said it had inspected Afro-Caribbean Meat Processor and Afro-Caribbean Warehouse. Staff found “the majority of the food in the facility had been significantly contaminated by rodents.”
The government branch has seized all of the food within the store.
According to the SHA, the store sold food directly to customers, as well as supplying other establishments in Saskatchewan.
It did not specify which other businesses purchase from the Afro-Caribbean Meat Processor and Afro-Caribbean Warehouse.
The SHA recommends anyone who has purchased food from the business to throw it out. If it’s in an impermeable package, people can instead “wash all impermeable packaging with soap and water and sanitize using a solution of 15ml bleach to one litre of water before opening the packaging or consuming the contents.”
