The RCMP Heritage Centre in Regina is extending its winter shutdown by two months due in part to the possibility of a COVID-19 slowdown.
In a media release Wednesday, the centre said it would close from Christmas Eve through March. It usually is closed to the public for the month of January, allowing the RCMP Historical Collections Unit to clean or update exhibits.
The release said the centre was extending its closure this year “to take advantage of a normally quieter time of year combined with the potential for another COVID-19 slowdown to work on maintenance, cleaning and restructuring.”
“We made the decision to extend our temporary closure because it presents an opportunity for necessary work to be done. We look forward to reopening the Centre soon and providing some wonderful experiences for youth, families and tourists,” RCMP Heritage Centre CEO Tara Robinson said in the release.
All event bookings will continue as planned despite the centre’s closure. People can continue to make bookings, but only for dates in April and beyond.
The centre’s online shop also will continue to operate, with curbside pickup available Tuesday to Friday from noon to 5 p.m.
The centre is to announce its official reopening date in March.
