Two people are dead after two pickup trucks and a snowplow collided Monday just west of Maidstone.
According to the RCMP, officers from the Maidstone detachment responded just before 3 p.m., to a report of a crash on Highway 16 about one kilometre west of the town.
The Mounties determined a pickup truck collided with a snowplow, which then was hit by another pickup.
Two people in the second pickup — a 47-year-old woman and a 24-year-old woman, both from Beaumont, Alta. — were pronounced dead at the scene. The man who was driving the second pickup, a male passenger of that truck, and the man who was driving the other pickup were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The man driving the snowplow wasn’t injured.
The highway was closed during the investigation, but has reopened. The RCMP and a traffic reconstructionist are investigating the crash.
