Statistics Canada is out with the latest national and provincial employment numbers for December.
According to a release, there were 55,000 full-time jobs added nationally in December. But the national unemployment rate remained virtually static at 5.9 per cent.
In Saskatchewan, employment rose by 1.1 per cent, with Statistics Canada calling it the “first notable increase” since September.
The gains were seen in full-time employment, mostly among men ages 25 to 54 in professional, scientific and technical services.
Overall unemployment rate rose to 5.4 per cent in Saskatchewan, up from 5.2 per cent in November.
Unemployment fell to pre-pandemic levels in the Census Metropolitan Areas (CMAs) of Saskatoon and Regina at 5.5 per cent and 5.6 per cent, respectively — just over one per cent lower in each city than in February.
