10:00 – New evidence is suggesting a lab leak origin for COVID-19 could be more likely than previously believed. Newly-released emails show leading British and American scientists thought it was likely that COVID leaked from a laboratory, but were concerned that further debate on the issue would harm science in China. The emails said “a likely explanation” was that COVID had evolved from a SARS-like virus in human tissue at a low-security lab, which may have “Accidentally created a virus primed for rapid transmission between humans.” Author Elaine Dewar put forward the lab leak hypothesis in her book ‘On the Origins of the Deadliest Pandemic in 100 Years,’ and she joins Gormley to discuss the new emails and why the lab leak theory remains a controversial one.
