A Regina mom is desperate to see her daughter safe at home.
For the last two months, Mariecar Jackson hasn’t been able to see, hug or talk to her seven-year-old, Sarah.
The distraught mom joined Gormley on Thursday to share more about her ordeal.
Mariecar said her ex-husband, Michael Gordon Jackson, failed to bring Sarah back after a visit. Apparently, he’s holding the girl because he doesn’t want her to get a COVID-19 vaccine.
It has been a real struggle and ordeal for Mariecar, especially since consulting with her lawyer and sharing her story with the media.
“Half of me is OK, because I am stronger than before, on my first interviews. But half of me is worse. Because time is going by, and every day I just feel like I’m not going to be able to see my daughter anymore,” she said, choking back sobs.
She said it’s a pattern of behaviour that she has seen from her ex-husband before.
“It has been going on for many years that he has not (been) returning Sarah back … In 2020, when this pandemic began in March, he picked up Sarah and did not return for one month,” Mariecar recalled.
When asked whether the two had tried to have a conversation about the COVID vaccine for their child, Mariecar said she had wanted to.
“But talking to Michael Jackson is very impossible,” she said.
“During that time, when (Sarah) was asking me about vaccines, the Saskatchewan Health Authority hadn’t released any announcements yet. So I (was) just waiting for the announcement until I would talk to him like two parents would do. But it didn’t happen, because he already took off with my daughter somewhere.”
Through it all, Mariecar has been wracked with worry.
“This is about the well-being of my daughter,” she said. “I don’t know where she is. I don’t know if she’s eating well. I always have a thought that she’s in a basement, she’s in a dark room, and all these thoughts are just in my mind.
“I just couldn’t help it. It has been so long since I’ve talked to her, since I’ve seen her.”
Mariecar is begging anyone who might know where her daughter and her ex-husband are to call the police. The RCMP issued a media release about Jackson and Sarah, but didn’t put out an Amber Alert.
“Nobody can help me. I was on the ground crying. I said, ‘I’m in Canada, this is not happening.’ Nobody can help me to find my daughter,” Mariecar sobbed.
“My daughter is still missing. Please, if you know anything of the whereabouts of Sarah and Michael, please call the RCMP. Please help me.”
