Saskatchewan can expect a decent dump of the white stuff before a warmup.
Much of the province has been under extreme cold warnings since Tuesday.
Now, Environment Canada is predicting a rise in temperature.
Meteorologist Chris Stammers says the warnings will likely be lifted Friday afternoon.
“It’s bitterly cold this morning … That will be slow to ease today. Temperatures will rise pretty nicely, but the winds are going to pick up out of the south this afternoon, which will keep wind chills pretty cold through the day. But it does look like we’ll be able to end that extreme cold for you early this afternoon, hopefully,” he said.
However, with a bit of a warmup will come another staple of winter weather: Snow.
“An Alberta Clipper is developing over Alberta right now. That will enter (Saskatchewan) this evening … and that will taper off on Saturday,” he said.
How much snow falls will be different throughout the province.
The Regina area will see between five and 10 centimetres, while the Saskatoon area will get less at two to four centimetres.
That snow will likely quickly turn to slush.
The forecast shows a significant warmup next week.
Both southern and central Saskatchewan will see high temperatures at or above 0 C Monday and Tuesday.
