Regina’s Mark McMorris has posted his third career third-place finish at the Winter Olympics.
The 28-year-old snowboarder won the bronze medal in the men’s slopestyle final late Sunday in China, posting a final-run score of 88.53 points to move up from fourth place.
McMorris also won bronze medals in slopestyle in 2014 in Sochi, Russia and in 2018 in Pyeongchang, South Korea.
Max Parrot of Bromont, Que., led after the second run with a score of 90.96 points and that stood up through the third run. He adds the 2022 Olympic gold medal to the silver he won in slopestyle at the 2018 Games.
Canada now has won four medals at the Beijing Games. Mikael Kingsbury won a silver in men’s moguls and long-track speed skater Isabelle Weidemann won a bronze in the women’s 3,000 metres.
McMorris was in fifth place after the first of his three runs Sunday with a score of 76.98 points, and he moved up one spot by putting up an 80.85 in the second run. He then improved on that in his third and final run to earn the bronze.
China’s Su Yuming, who was the top rider after the qualifying round, won the silver medal with a score of 88.70.
Sebastien Toutant of L’Assomption, Que., finished ninth.
The Canadians now will prepare for the big air competition, which is set to begin Feb. 13.
