A 31-year-old man has been sentenced to two years less a day in jail in connection with the violent robbery of a Regina delivery driver in May of 2020.
Court records say Daniel Scott was sentenced Tuesday to 729 days in jail after pleading guilty to one count of robbery. Three other charges — including forcible confinement and overcoming resistance by administering a drug — were stayed.
Scott was sentenced to 1,028 days behind bars, but was given credit for time spent on remand. He also was given a firearms prohibition.
According to the Regina Police Service, the robbery happened in the early morning of May 30, 2020 as a man sat in his vehicle after finishing a food delivery in east Regina.
In a release detailing the robbery, police said a man knocked on the driver’s window. When the victim opened the window to see what the man wanted, the suspect opened the door and dragged the driver out of the vehicle into a nearby house and into the basement.
Police said the victim was beaten up several times and forced to inhale unknown substances, which investigators believed to be drugs. The victim was forced to transfer money to his attacker and then was taken to an ATM to take out more money.
Police didn’t say how the victim got away.
Scott was arrested in July of 2020 and charged.
