The RCMP always gets its names.
The Mounties are once again holding a contest to suggest names for the 13 German Shepherd puppies that will be born at the Police Dog Service Training Centre (PDSTC) in Innisfail, Alta., in 2022.
“When thinking of names, it is important to keep in mind that these are working police dogs, not pets,” the RCMP said in a media release.
The winning names will be chosen by the PDSTC staff. Names not selected during this portion of the contest will be considered for other puppies born during the year.
Children between the ages of four and 14 who live in Canada each can suggest one name starting with the letter R. The names can’t have more than nine letters, they can only be one or two syllables long, and they can be for a male or female puppy.
The deadline for entries is March 17. Entries will only be accepted online here.
The 13 kids whose names are chosen will each receive a laminated 8×10-inch photo of the pup they name, a plush dog named Justice and an RCMP water bottle.
Contest winners are to be announced April 13.
