The Saskatchewan Health Authority is warning the public about a possible exposure to hepatitis A from an employee at a Tim Hortons in Emerald Park.
The SHA said it’s investigating a case of hepatitis A in a food handler who assisted with all meal preparation at the restaurant at 20 Great Plains Rd. The period of potential exposure is Jan. 27 through Feb. 10.
Anyone who may have eaten at the restaurant during those dates should contact HealthLine 811 for more information.
“The risk of transmission is very low as the food handler wore gloves; however, the possibility of transmission still exists,” the SHA said in a media release.
The health authority said anyone who ate at the restaurant, took food out or went through the drive-thru during the days in question should get vaccinated against hepatitis A if no more than 14 days have passed since their most recent meal at the restaurant, and if they haven’t had a hepatitis A vaccine in the past.
If it has been longer than two weeks since someone ate at the restaurant, they should monitor for symptoms of hepatitis A for up to 50 days after their potential exposure.
Symptoms may include fever, loss of appetite, dark urine, light stool, tiredness, nausea and vomiting, diarrhea and jaundice.
