The RCMP in Saskatchewan is aware of and preparing for demonstrations at two border crossings into the United States.
In a news release Thursday, the RCMP said it was aware that protests of COVID vaccine mandates are set to occur at the North Portal and Northgate points of entry at the Canada-U.S. border.
Police say they are committed to working with any involved parties to minimize the impact on public travel. The Mounties said the objective for the weekend is to work to restore the orderly flow of traffic in the safest manner possible.
They’re making extensive efforts to engage with people involved with the demonstration to ensure they’re aware of the current legal boundaries of a peaceful and lawful protest.
Demonstrators without access to a staging area on private land will be turned away.
Police said locals can expect to see an increased police presence in the area and travellers are encouraged to check for road closure information.
This comes a week after a convoy went down to the Regway border crossing. A blockade was not set at that time.
