A string of fires in and around Alida on Wednesday night has resulted in arson charges against a 29-year-old man.
According to the RCMP, officers got a call about a camper and a house on fire on the same rural property near Alida on Wednesday at around 8:45 p.m. Police also got a report of a fight involving two men.
When officers arrived, they found another three buildings were on fire in the area. Firefighters from the Alida, Carnduff, Oxbow, Carlyle and Redvers fire departments were called in to fight the blazes that eventually destroyed the camper and the house on the first property, a vacant house in Alida, an administrative office and an abandoned rural residence.
There weren’t any injuries reported.
The 29-year-old man who was arrested was charged with four counts of arson, two counts of breach of probation and one count of assault.
As they continue their investigation, the Mounties are asking anyone in or around Alida who has security cameras to look at the footage from between 8 p.m. and 9:30 p.m., to see if it contains anything that could help.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the Carnduff RCMP at 306-482-4400.
