'Considering the circumstances ... this is best-case scenario,' Cole Cusitar said.
An investigation is underway after a 25-year-old woman, who was an inmate at Pine Grove Correctional Centre, died.
In a news release, the province said the woman was found unresponsive in her cell on Good Friday. Corrections staff initiated life-saving measures and called EMS before she was taken to Victoria Hospital in Prince Albert.
She was declared dead at the hospital around 10:45 a.m. on Saturday.
The Ministry of Corrections, Policing and Public Safety is conducting an internal investigation. The Prince Albert Police Service and the Coroners Service are also completing their own investigations.
The province said no foul play is suspected at this time and the death is not related to COVID-19.
