A Saskatchewan company has been fined $175,000 in connection with the death of a worker near Lipton in March of 2020.
According to a release from the provincial government, Blair’s Crop Solutions Inc. pleaded guilty to a violation of the Occupational Health and Safety Regulations in Regina Provincial Court on Feb. 3. Two other charges were stayed.
A fine of $125,000 and surcharge of $50,000 were levied on April 12.
On March 24, 2020, one of the company’s workers was found dead under a tractor near Lipton. That town is about 90 kilometres northeast of Regina.
The company pleaded guilty to a charge under the OHS regulations of failing to ensure “that all powered mobile equipment is inspected by a competent person for defects and unsafe conditions as often as is necessary to ensure that it is capable of safe operation, resulting in the death of a worker.”
