It’s going to feel like deja vu in the southeast corner of Saskatchewan this weekend.
The Weyburn, Estevan, Carlyle and Moosomin areas are expecting another massive storm.
Environment Canada has issued a special weather advisory warning of heavy snow and wind.
Meteorologist Kyle McAuley broke down what to expect on Thursday.
He said the worst of it will likely hit Saturday, bringing up to 50 centimetres or more than a foot and a half of snow.
“It starts off with a bit of rain and turns into snow. It looks like it’s going to be turning to snow sometime in the middle of the weekend, probably Saturday in the middle of the day, and then a lot of snow after that,” he predicted.
The snow will taper off by Monday, but the white stuff won’t be the only problem.
“There are some pretty strong winds coming along with it too so with that heavy, falling snow, visibility’s going to be pretty reduced,” he explained.
“It may be a blizzard, (but) the one saving grace is that it’s going to be pretty wet, so the snow is going to clump together, which may not reduce visibility as much.”
That being said, he’s not optimistic about how the roads in the area will look.
“Definitely try to avoid travelling on the weekend. If you do have to travel, take your time, let someone know where you’re going and bring out lots of supplies. I would say assume you might get stuck,” he said.
He also predicted many roads will close.
The storm isn’t expected to spread further west or north, mostly just affecting the southeast corner.
This comes about a week after another storm slammed the same area.
