The campaign won’t resemble Caddyshack, but Regina is ready to get rid of some rascally rodents.
The city said Friday it’s set to begin its gopher control program, with 23 areas around the region identified for pest control.
The selected areas will be marked with yellow signs that will be removed only after the poison used to kill the gophers is gone.
“Staff will visit sites daily for several weeks following the pest control application to clean up and ensure continued safety,” the city said in a media release.
Residents are urged to keep their dogs on leashes or to avoid the selected areas entirely.
Rozol RTU, which is approved by Health Canada to control gophers, will be applied in what the city called “buffer zones” or rough turf areas in the city along storm channels, and roadway and railway buffers. It won’t be used on athletic fields or parks.
The gopher control program is to continue for several weeks.
