Pointing bear spray at another person is never a good idea, but it’s an especially bad idea if the other person is a police officer.
A 17-year-old boy found that out early Friday in Regina.
According to the Regina Police Service, an officer in an unmarked vehicle was patrolling in North Central at about 3:40 a.m., when he saw three males “who were acting suspiciously, cutting through parking lots and flashing gang signs.”
The officer was parked in his vehicle in the 2900 block of Dewdney Avenue when the trio came toward him, and one of them allegedly pointed a canister of bear spray at the officer.
When the officer got out of his vehicle and challenged the youths, two ran away while the teen with the bear spray was arrested.
He was charged with assaulting a peace officer while threatening to use a weapon, possession of a weapon for the purpose of committing an offence, carrying a concealed weapon (the bear spray), and breach of an undertaking.
The teen, who can’t be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, made his first court appearance Friday.
