With temperatures in Regina reaching into the mid-20s this week, many are eager to get out and soak up the rays.
980 CJME hit up some of the hot spots in the city Wednesday to see how people were soaking up the first bit of warm weather this year.
Braydee Prokopchuk and Kelly LeMay were at a local patio enjoying the nice weather and said they’re both happy to finally be out in the sun.
“You can definitely tell there is some excitement in the air today,” said Prokopchuk. “More people are smiling in the streets with the sunny day today. (I’m) just excited to be outside doing some summer activities.”
LeMay says the nice weather means it’s finally time to put away the winter wardrobe.
“I’m super-excited,” LeMay said. “There’s a whole new wardrobe when you can take out your summer clothes again, so I’m excited for that.”
The start of this summer-like weather is a bit different than years past, as it’s the first one when COVID-19 restrictions have been completely eliminated.
Prokopchuk adds it’s nice to be able to enjoy a beverage and not have to worry about COVID-19 being top of mind.
“It’s just nice to know there’s not that added layer of restriction,” Prokopchuk said. “You can just go out and not worry about it as much. There are some people that might be a little bit worried, but it’s nice to go out and enjoy with a little bit less stress.”
Nicole Brisbois was out walking the trails at a playground with her dog and child.
Brisbois says the absence of COVID rules and the nice weather are a big relief for helping her family get back to normal.
“It’s so nice to be out,” she said. “I was just on maternity leave at home with my baby and puppy and it was getting a little crowded in our house through the winter. There wasn’t really anything we could do because we were being COVID-conscious.”
“Now the good weather has come around, so we’re able to be out more.”
Brisbois noted if the weather stays this way, she and her family will definitely be getting out more often.
Regina can expect temperatures to reach as high as 27 C on Thursday, but records aren’t expected to be broken.
