The Hospitals of Regina Foundation Home Lottery winners have officially been unveiled.
Doreen Willerth of Indian Head was drawn as the winner of the $1.4-million showhome grand prize.
Willerth said she buys tickets to support the foundation every year.
“I thought it would be really beautiful, fun and a privilege to have won it,” she said Friday. “I support them every year. I just buy it automatically. I don’t look up at the prizes. I just thought this is my donation.”
Other prizes handed out included $617,050 going to Regina’s Mary Lynne Birrell.
The total amount raised in the 50/50 was more than $1.2 million. It was the third consecutive year the lottery has broken its record total for the 50/50.
There were also cash and vehicle prizes handed out during Friday’s presentation.
Dino Sophocleous, the president and CEO of the foundation, said this was another great year for the lottery.
“This community is very philanthropic,” he said. “It has been a great community to work in, so it has been great.”
All of the money raised from the lottery goes towards improving hospitals in the Regina area.
“There’s always a lot of needs and priorities that need to be met in our hospitals, so this will certainly help,” Sophocleous added.
