Get ready for a special kind of circus to come to town.
Cirque du Soleil’s OVO production is coming to Regina for six shows from July 21-24 and Saskatoon for seven performances from July 27-31.
“OVO is a colourful intrusion into a new day in the life of insects; a non-stop riot of energy and movement,” Cirque du Soleil said in a media release. “Through show-stopping acrobatics highlighting the unique personalities and abilities of selected insect species, OVO explores the beauty of biodiversity in all its contrasts and vibrancy.”
Scott Ford, the executive director of SaskTel Centre, said it’s exciting to bring back the acrobatic circus this summer.
“I think everybody knows that Cirque du Soleil has a brand that’s of the highest quality,” Ford said.
“People come to Cirque du Soleil events and know that the show is going to be sensational every single time. They have created an entertainment company that is renowned all over the world.”
Ford explains Cirque du Soleil has done shows all over the world and he and his team were beaming when they found out about a tour that was going through Western Canada.
Each show in Saskatoon has a capacity of 4,000 people with tickets being offered in both the lower bowl and on the floor.
“We’re anticipating to sell approximately 30,000 tickets during the seven-day run,” Ford said.
Tickets range from $39.50 up to roughly $125.00 for premium seating.
“When you’re that close to the talent and these amazing acrobats and performers, every seat in the building is sensational,” Ford said.
Ford believes the show will bring an electric buzz to the city when it arrives and local businesses will have a chance to thrive from it.
“It’s what I classify as a high-quality destination event. This event will bring in a lot of consumers from outside of Saskatoon,” Ford said. “It’s a great event that creates a lot of economic spinoff for Saskatoon.”
