Regina Public Schools said Thursday a cyber attack is to blame for the IT issues it has experienced this week.
In a social media post, the school division said “it has become clear” that someone had hacked the system.
“As a result of this attack, the school division has taken its systems offline in order to assess the nature and scope of the attack and to ensure that the school division’s systems can be safely brought back online,” the division said in its post.
The post didn’t say if the division knows who’s responsible for the cyber attack.

Regina Public Schools said it took action as soon as it noticed the “suspicious activity,” shutting down many online operations such as email, and immediately started working to secure the information of students, families and employees.
After the attack, the division brought in cybersecurity experts to help out.
“For the time being, all public communication will be shared through the Regina Public Schools’ Facebook and Twitter accounts,” the division wrote. “Information for school families will be communicated through schools.”
The division urged parents and caregivers to report any absences by telephone to the students’ schools.
