After three years, the Cathedral Village Arts Festival is finally back.
The annual street fair had the neighbourhood near downtown Regina buzzing on Saturday.
While it’s on, 13th Avenue is closed from Albert Street to Elphinstone Street.
Instead of cars, that road was filled with musicians, food vendors and pop-up shops.
Marilyn Turnley is the chair of the 2022 festival. 980 CJME spoke with her before the street fair kicked off.

“For the artists, for the community partners and the local businesses to be lined up along the streets, greeting their customers, engaging with their customers … They have not had that opportunity since 2019,” she pointed out.
The festival has been cancelled for the last three years because of COVID.
“I think we were all so hungry for this connection. This festival is an identifier for our community, and it also signifies very much the end of social isolation of all forms … Seeing people out at our venues, out on the street, talking with one another, engaging with another … It’s just been magic,” she said.
She doesn’t believe the pandemic is over but appreciates being able to get out and enjoy mingling with a crowd of people.
“We may not be back to normal … But this engagement we so miss with one another, even if only for six days in May, is something that brings a sense of normalcy,” Turnley said.
The festival is a six-day affair, culminating in the Saturday street fair.
More than 200 artists and businesses were set up for the fair.
