980 CJME has been recognized nationally for journalism excellence by the Radio Television Digital News Association (RTDNA).
The RTDNA is made up of radio and TV newsrooms across Canada.
980 CJME won for Best Canadian Local News in a small or medium market for Breaking News in the audio category for reports from the site of a train derailment near Craven on Dec. 28.
Our story on the derailment can be seen here.
Kevin Martel anchored coverage during the Greg Morgan Morning Show with Logan Stein on the scene in Craven.
Stein was the only reporter on the scene in the early-morning hours, enduring near -50 C conditions to relay the initial story of the mangled wreck as well as the initial cleanup.
He remained on the scene as area residents reacted to the derailment as Andrew Shepherd anchored into the afternoon.
The award was announced at the RTDNA Canada Awards gala in Toronto on Saturday night.
