Environment Canada is confirming a tornado touched down near Rosenhof on Monday afternoon.
“(It was) not super-big, but definitely on the ground,” Environment Canada meteorologist Dan Fulton said just before 6 p.m.
“Right now, that storm is tracking south of the Trans-Canada and it looks like the storm’s going to pass south of Herbert as it moves eastward. (There are) no big communities in the path of it yet, but if you’re in the area, you definitely should keep an eye out.”
An eyewitness reported seeing the twister in the area at 5:40 p.m. Rosenhof is about 25 kilometres southeast of Swift Current.
At around 5:45 p.m., the weather service said meteorologists were tracking a thunderstorm that was producing the tornado and issued the warning for the rural municipalities of Coulee and Lawtonia. The warning was lifted around 6 p.m.
“The parent storm is not super-strong,” Fulton said when asked about the twister. “It wouldn’t be a huge one or anything like that, but certainly something you wouldn’t want to run into.”
A severe thunderstorm warning was in effect in the Swift Current-Herbert area, while severe thunderstorm watches were in place across southern Saskatchewan.
