We all remember ‘Back to the Future,’ and the series is still a fan favourite today.
But imagine the series without Michael J. Fox or Christopher Lloyd. Instead, picture one person playing every single role. Great Scott!
That is exactly what fans can experience at the Regina Fringe Festival’s ‘One Man Back to the Future.’ Actor Shelby Bond plays all of the characters, providing voices and sound effects from the 1985 film over the course of a one-hour show.
This will be Bond’s first time performing in Saskatchewan, after he was unable to perform over the past two years because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“I think it’s really fun to take all of the characters and all of the plot from a show and compress it down into a wild melange of comedy,” Bond said.
The crowd is a big part of the show as well, he added.
“I use a lot of audience participation and I get the people really working with me to help the story happen,” he said.
“So many of us love ‘Back to the Future’ that the audience loves playing (along) with me.”
It’s just Bond and a trunk on the stage. He said he separates the characters with different voices and props.
If you haven’t seen the movie, Bond said it’s not a big deal, because that gives him the challenge to see if people can follow along with the story.
Bond said this is a perfect time to see a show, because we’ve been away from live performances for so long.
“It’s such a magical place for us to go to after we’ve been locked down for so long,” he said.
There has always been a passion to perform inside Bond.
Growing up, he said his parents wouldn’t need to see a movie if he’d seen it already, because he would act out the entire film for them at home.
Bond said he’s excited to be back on stage and have the opportunity to interact with the audience and share the experience.
Tickets for ‘One Man Back to the Future’ and all of the shows at the Regina Fringe Festival are available online.
The festival runs until July 10th.
