Regina police have taken more than two kilograms of fentanyl and one kilogram of cocaine off the streets.
According to the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency, fentanyl doses as small as two milligrams — the size of two grains of salt — would be fatal for most people. There are two million milligrams in two kilograms.
In a media release Tuesday, police said officers from the drug, street crimes and canine units executed a search warrant at a house in Balgonie on Friday.
The release said investigators found 2,169.31 grams of fentanyl, 1,418.01 grams of cocaine, 914.14 grams of methamphetamine, $8,765 in Canadian cash and a sawed-off .22-calibre rifle, along with digital scales, packaging and other trafficking paraphernalia.
Mathew James McDonald, 39, was arrested and charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking cocaine, possession for the purpose of trafficking meth, possession for the purpose of trafficking fentanyl, possession of proceeds of crime over $5,000, careless use of a firearm/contravention of storage regulations, and unauthorized possession of a firearm.
He made his first appearance in Regina Provincial Court on Monday.
