Over 3,000 people are still without power after a storm hit a large part of southeast Saskatchewan late Friday night.
Crews with SaskPower have already restored power to roughly 6,000 customers on Saturday and are hoping to fix everyone’s power by the end of Sunday.
Areas that SaskPower expects to restore include:
- Rural areas south of Whitewood
- Rocanville
- Southwest of Wapella
- Sakimay First Nation
A good chunk north of Grenfell is also without power still.
SaskPower is warning of downed powerlines that could be live and very dangerous.
According to a release, if you come across a power line, stand ten meters back and call the outage centre to report it.
Environment Canada meteorologist James Knight confirmed a large area was affected by Friday’s storm.
“There was a straight-line wind event near Grenfell at about 10:30 p.m. with radar-indicated winds up to 130 kilometres an hour, causing enormous amounts of power outages and damage in the area,” Knight said.
Knight says the heat has been a big issue for the entire weekend and that trend will continue.
Saskatoon tied a daily record high on Saturday at 36.7 C, dating back to 1941.
