The Saskatchewan Roughriders are dealing with a COVID-19 outbreak.
In a statement late Monday afternoon, the CFL team said “several members” of the team and its support staff had tested positive for the virus.
“As the team travelled together across the country, all players, coaches and staff will undergo mandatory testing for the next several days,” the team’s statement said, referring to the Roughriders’ trip to Nova Scotia last week for Saturday’s Touchdown Atlantic.
“The Club is working with the CFL Medical Committee and following all COVID-19 policies and procedures set by the CFL.”
As a result of the positive tests, the Roughriders won’t practise Tuesday as scheduled. The team is expected to be on the practice field Wednesday in advance of Saturday’s game against the visiting Toronto Argonauts.
Game time at Mosaic Stadium is set for 5 p.m.
The 2020 CFL season was cancelled due to the threat of the virus. COVID also was responsible for a shortened 2021 campaign.
