Four communities in Saskatchewan broke a heat record on Thursday.
- Assiniboia 37.7 C
- Lucky Lake 36.7 C
- Rockglen 37.5 C
- Coronach 38.6 C
While the weather was hot over the past 24 hours, Environment Canada meteorologist James Colangelo says the southern part of the province will be returning to more seasonal temperatures on Friday.
“We had a low pressure system that was quickly making its way though the province overnight,” he said. “It’s currently making its way towards Manitoba. We had that heat kind of come up from the south in the warm sector of the low and currently there is a cold front that is swinging down southern Saskatchewan right now, so that will cool off southern Saskatchewan.”
The heat may be gone, but Colangelo mentioned it could get windy for those in Regina and the southern part of the province.
“That low pressure system is really moving quickly and with that cold front in behind, you’ll see northwesterly winds gusting pretty strong in some places,’ he explained.
Those wind gusts could get as high as 60-80 km/h as we head into the afternoon. The wind won’t be as strong in Saskatoon with gusts topping 60 km/h.
Colangelo doesn’t expect the winds to cause damage, but adds you should be cautious.
“You always want to be careful when there’s strong winds,” he stated. “Keep loose items secure. We aren’t looking at severe winds today.”
He expects the winds to die off as we head into the evening hours of the night.
