Nine separate incidents — many of them involving stolen vehicles — have led to 13 charges against a 20-year-old Regina man.
The Regina Police Service said officers arrested the man Monday just after 9:15 a.m., on Hawthorne Crescent.
Called for a report of a sick or injured person, officers found the man passed out in the driver’s seat. The man had credit cards and a bank card under the name of another person and the vehicle — a Toyota Rav4 — had been reported stolen a day earlier from Milestone.
The vehicle also had been seen in surveillance video of a gas theft and had been involved in an incident of evading police on Sunday.
Police also determined the man was on community supervision orders out of Saskatoon and White Butte.
Further investigation linked the man to possession of another stolen vehicle — a Hyundai Santa Fe — that had been involved in a hit-and-run collision on Aug. 12 at Angus Street and Dewdney Avenue. The Santa Fe was recovered near Swift Current on Aug. 13.
The Stolen Auto and Forensic Identification units then linked the man to three other stolen vehicles: A GMC Sierra, a Ford F350 and a Saturn Ion, all of which were stolen between July 26 and Aug. 6.
The man is charged with theft of a motor vehicle (the Rav4), possession of property (Rav4) obtained by crime over $5,000, failing to comply with conditions of a release order, possession of property (the bank and credit cards) obtained by crime under $5,000, evading a peace officer, theft under $5,000 (gas), hit and run/fail to stop or remain at the scene of an accident, possession of property (Santa Fe) obtained by crime over $5,000, possession of property (F350) obtained by crime over $5,000, possession of property (Saturn Ion) obtained by crime under $5,000, theft over $5,000 (GMC Sierra), and possession of stolen property (GMC Sierra) over $5,000 for the purpose of trafficking.
He appeared in court Tuesday.
